Dinner Before the Show: Where to Eat Near Liverpool Philharmonic Hall

Hope Street is one of the few streets in Britain with a cathedral at each end: the Anglican Liverpool Cathedral to the south and the Metropolitan Cathedral to the north. Between them sit the Philharmonic Hall and the Everyman Theatre, which makes the street and the Georgian Quarter around it the natural place to eat before an evening performance.

Timing your meal

Most evening concerts at the Philharmonic Hall start at 7.30pm. Many restaurants around Hope Street offer pre-theatre menus served from late afternoon, designed to get you to your seat on time. It is worth telling staff when you book that you have a show to catch.

Where to eat and drink

  • The Philharmonic Dining Rooms — directly opposite the hall, the Grade I listed pub serves food all day and is the classic pre-concert stop. See our guide to Liverpool’s historic pubs.
  • Hope Street restaurants — the street and its side roads, including Hardman Street and Rodney Street, have a mix of independent restaurants and hotel dining rooms, including the Hope Street Hotel.
  • Bold Street — a five-minute walk downhill, with a wider choice of casual restaurants. See our Bold Street food guide.

Old Town Liverpool maintains a local guide to restaurants, pubs and cafés near Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, which is the most efficient way to check what is open on the night.

After the show

The Georgian Quarter is quieter late at night than the Ropewalks. For a later drink, the bars around Concert Square and Seel Street are a short walk away — see our guide to the Ropewalks and Duke Street.
